Cinematic Beach Engagement Session in Jacksonville Beach, Florida
On a sunny March morning in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, this Orlando couple celebrated their engagement and countdown to their wedding with a romantic session on the shore. As lovers of romance books and fairy tale movies, I knew I wanted to capture a certain whimsy in this session. A’s white puff-sleeve dress played a big part in narrowing down that essence! I love how C kept it beachy and simple with a striped camp shirt. He looked like he could be part of an Abercrombie campaign.
Posing Couples
When I photograph couples, especially those who aren’t used to being in front of the camera, I like to focus more on prompts than on strict poses, especially at the beginning of a session. It helps the couple to feel more comfortable with me and with each other. One of my favorite prompts from this session quickly became a prompt I use with every couple nowadays: hold hands, run away from me, but one of you looks back at me. The result is very cinematic, especially in a wide shot.
Another thing I love about beach sessions is making a busy environment look private and empty. If you know Florida, you know it’s almost always beach season. There were actually swarms of people on the beach, despite it being 7:00 AM. Aside from removing people (and footprints in the sand) from the background, a photographer must practice patience waiting for beach-goers to pass by, and do their best to find remote areas (hint: in my experience, they’re usually closest to the water!).
C and A enjoyed a lovely engagement session on the Florida coast.
If you are a couple planning for your big day, I would love to photograph your love story in all its uniqueness.
I am a beach girl at heart and will never say no to a sunrise session at my favorite place!
